When connecting your Interactive Broker account to Delta for the first time, you need to add SnapTrade to your Third-Party Services in your Interactive Brokers account before adding the connection to Delta.
This connection is a "Balance Only" connection, meaning it imports your current holdings and cash balances but does not include historical transaction data.
If you’re enabling the service for the first time, it may take 24-48 hours for the account data to appear due to a known limitation with IBKR Third-Party Services.
Make sure your account is fully opened and funded before linking.
To do this, log in to your IBKR account and then from the Menu, select Reporting, then Third-Party Reports.
On the Third-Party Reports screen, select the gear icon to enable the SnapTrade service.
Then, enable SnapTrade from the list.
After clicking Save, you will see SnapTrade showing up under Third-Party Services in your account.
Your Token and QueryID can then be used to add your Interactive Broker Account Connection into Delta.
Unknown Error During Initial Connection
If you encounter an unknown error within the first 24 hours of connecting your IBKR account, this is likely due to the time required for IBKR to enable data access. Follow these steps:
Wait up to 48 hours from the time you initiated the connection.
After 48 hours, try syncing your account again.
The connection should complete successfully once IBKR has enabled data access.
Automatic Balance Adjustments
When you connect your Interactive Brokers account, Delta uses a Balance Only import method. Because broker APIs often restrict access to your full lifetime trading history, Delta focuses on ensuring your current holdings are perfectly mirrored in the app.
Here is exactly how Delta keeps your data in sync:
Your Initial Sync: When you first connect, Delta reads your current Interactive Brokers balance and automatically generates a "synthetic" Buy transaction for each asset you hold.
Ongoing Updates: Whenever your balance changes on Interactive Brokers (like when you buy more shares or sell a position), Delta detects this difference during your next sync. It then automatically creates a new matching Buy or Sell transaction so your portfolio always perfectly aligns with reality.
A Note on Cost Basis: These automated trades are recorded using the asset's exact market price reported by Interactive Brokers at the time of the sync. Because Delta does not import the historical trades, your cost basis and average buy price for these assets will reflect the sync price, rather than your original purchase price.
Tracker Tip: If you prefer to have your exact historical cost basis and all-time profit tracked perfectly, we recommend manually adding your past trades (or importing them via CSV) before linking your Interactive Brokers account!
