Seeing a negative total balance after adding an Exchange Connection? There are a few things that could cause that and they are explained below.
First, many exchanges have various restrictions on API connections which you can learn about here. For example, Bitfinex allows us to only import transactions that are less than 300 days old. Therefore, the portfolio value may be negative if transactions older than 300 days are not manually accounted for.
Second, as our blog post mentions here, funds that are being used need to be accounted for. For example, if you purchase 1 BTC on Coinbase for $9,000 using fiat and you have "deduct from USD holdings" enabled, Delta will add a buy of 1 BTC / USD and deduct $9,000 from your USD (fiat) holdings. You need to add a deposit of $9,000 into the USD to match these funds or have transactions that add up to $9,000 before the time of this transaction.
PRO TIP: If your total portfolio balance is incorrect/negative, it could also be caused by a negative coin balance in your portfolio. If you cannot locate these negative balance coins at the bottom of your portfolio, please ensure that you have the setting "Hide 0 holdings" off. You can find this under Settings -> View Options (or click here). If this is off and you see no negative balances, then this isn't the issue causing the incorrect balance.
PRO TIP 2: If the article above didn't help, you can take a look at this article here that goes more in-depth into the issue of a negative/incorrect asset balance.
